cLoSe tExTuAL aNaLysiS...

I will be analysing a scene in bad girls where two women of the prison are having a physcial fight. Bad girls Kerrigan v Buxton round 1! In this scene the two women are sourrounded by other women of the prison and are being subjected to cause one another pain and the most horrendous injuries possible. The scene starts off by someone saying...'Someones going to get killed, we have to do something about it!' We are suddenly made to hear the squelching sounds of Buxton punching into Pats stomach!

...Media Language...
In this particular scene there is alot of quick shots that emphasise on the speed and anxiety of the scene itself. The quick camera shots makes the fight seem more realistic and fast paced, this effect makes one feel as if though can identify to the scene. The Mise-En-Scene is set in the prison somewhere, there are no propps used however a mat is seen to be underneath the characters, this maybe because they might have beein takin part in some sort of activity before the fight. Within each camera frame alot of women can be cheering on the two fighting women...Close ups are also used when characters are on the floor and headbuttign each other, making sure each detail such as facial expressions are captured.
The lighting is quite low key and therefore tries to express the characters different positons and facial expressions.
...Institution...
ITV...commercial television (advertising, profit) ITV is the instituion that is associated with Bad Girls, although Shed Productions priduces it, ITV takes full responsibility of airing the drama serial. Because of ITV being a more advertising based channel, it encourages adveritisemnets in between the breaks of Bad Girls, tsargeting products to that specific target audeince.
...Genre...
Some of the generic conventions that run throughout the programme is the whole theme of mischevious and unacceptable behaviour. Being based in a prison the conventions need to be ovbiously quite mischevious and naughty. Because of the situation that the women are put in one already assumes them to be badly behaved.
...Representation...
The representaiton of females in this scene can be seen to be challlenging typical steretoypes of the dainty, ladylike women. As in this scene both women are seen to be fighting almose like men! The only women in this scene that are seen to be actually trying to help out are the few that are bystanders, however even they dont do anythign about the fight and let it resume. Therefore the representation of females in Bad Girls series 8 makes one feel as if though the typical steretypes are being challenged and new roles for women are being enforced into todays society.
...Audience...
Bad Girls target audience is the demographic of 16-24 year olds and I would sya maybe even older, their first primary target audience is women, however I fele as if though their secondary target audience could be men too.
...Idealogies and Values...
The idelogies and values behind this specific scene can be seen to hold quite strong values. Women are not seen that often grappling with one another in the media, however this cna happen in real life, thus this scene can reflect a certain amount of realness.
...Narrative...
The whole narrative itself it about a fight that has broken out, due to peer pressure within the prison. Because Pat was sticking up for someone she got herself into a fight with the prisons top chik Natalie...soon enough they find themselves knocking each other out senseless...with blood dripping all over them....eWwWw
